![]() ![]() And in the end, you the player gets to let him know what you think too.In Prey, you awaken aboard Talos I, a space station orbiting the moon in the year 2032. ![]() Given Alex's display of trust, I'm inclined to believe most of the reconstructed events are truthful (at least as far as the limited data they have to base it on allows), but you could also view his attitude as supreme arrogance, believing his brainwashing gambit successful. It's a propaganda effort to some extent, so it's entirely possible they have manipulated the simulation to show humanity in a better light, and/or their experience of being attacked by the typhon as particularly horrifying. The cynically minded might conclude that there's not really a reason why the events shown have to be true. They do this by having it live through some version of the transpired events from the perspective of one of the humans (Morgan), to make it see things their way. The main objective is to investigate how the hybrid acts and reacts, what choices it makes, with the ultimate objective of convincing it that humanity deserves its sympathy. We can't know that anything that happens was actually how it played out. It's a simulation based on the collective memories of some number of people, data which was presumably recovered/retained by Alex somehow. The game as experienced by the hybrid (you) is not exactly straight up memories. They're the same type of not-exactly-a-perfect-copy as January and December, and Alex uses them because he does not have access to the actual people, who probably didn't survive. No clear answers exist, but given the precedence that you can make an operator based on a person from their connectomes, I would assume that's what those characters are. I am fascinated with the dynamics of the whole story so I just really wanted to talk to others about it I think a lot of this is probably up for interpretation or head canon, but I’m curious if there’s been any discussion on these things with the devs, or maybe hidden clues in the game I haven’t found yet. If those memories are accurate, then could other humans have survived and start a resistance? It would seem that Alex is the only human alive, but the memories we replicate in the game bring us across numerous humans who survived fights with the Typhon. Tangentially to that, is who is actually left. We know Morgan programmed December and January, so did all the other characters do the same thing before they died? Or did they die and have their genetic code installed into Operators as very human AI? Do all high-level TranStar employees just upload their genetic code and personality profile to the company servers or did Alex have to do it post-mortem? One thing that sticks out in my mind is how Alex has the four operators that voice the characters we interact with in the game. Is there any evidence that anyone else survived? It seems like Alex is the only one to survive Talos 1, and may be the last human in the universe give the state of the world in the post-credits sequence. I just finished Prey for the first time yesterday and really enjoyed the story, but was left wondering actually happened. ![]() Posts are subject to removal at any time at moderator discretion, because we're fascists.
